One Billion Rising

February 14th 2013 will not only be Valentine's Day, it will also be the day that attempts to get one billion people rising across the world.

One Billion Rising is a global event that is encouraging people to rise up, dance or walk out to show that they want violence against women and girls to end.

The One Billion Rising website explains:


A global strike
An invitation to dance
A call to men and women to refuse to participate in the status quo until rape and rape culture ends
An act of solidarity, demonstrating to women the commonality of their struggles and their power in numbers
A refusal to accept violence against women and girls as a given
A new time and a new way of being

To get involved in a rising you can either create one in your school, college, work or community or you could join an existing event near you.

The One Billion Rising website has all the information you need to get rising on 14th February 2013.

In Nottingham people are being encouraged to rise up and dance for one hour in the Market Square at 11.30am. For more details click here
