THE GREAT PROJECT
GREAT is delivered over 4 weekly sessions and is designed to promote healthy relationships and domestic abuse awareness to Year 5 and 6 pupils. Each session has identified aims, learning outcomes and links to the RSE, PSHE and SEAL requirements.
Our universal projects ensure all children and young people that participate have access to healthy relationships and domestic abuse awareness education. Our targeted projects allow young people at risk of either experiencing domestic and sexual abuse or of using harmful behaviours in their own relationships to receive tailored interventions in small groups.
Great Project Sessions (Each session is 2 hours long)
Session One (Healthy Relationships) – Promotes the importance of children developing healthy, positive relationships
Session Two (Domestic Abuse) – Explores what domestic abuse is, how children can access support, and what support services are available
Session Three (Excuses and Choices) – Considers the reasons behind domestic abuse, with a focus on dispelling commonly used excuses/myths
Session Four (Respecting Each Other) – Looks at gender inequalities and promoting gender respect

Benefits of The GREAT Project
- Developed in response to the disturbing fact that 1 in 5 children are living with domestic abuse in order to reduce the devastating impact that domestic violence often has on the lives of children, including poor attainment in education.
- Enables primary school children to gain knowledge about healthy relationships, to explore what domestic violence is, and to know where to go for help and support.
- Complements Key Stage 2 Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE), RSE and Social and Emotional Aspects of Learning (SEAL) objectives that have been created in consultation with pupils
- Bold and interactive resources that take into account visual, auditory and kinaesthetic learners. Resources are designed for a range of abilities and enable pupils to retain, remember and recall information.
- Takes a sensitive approach to the delivery of a specialist topic
